Valais Blackneck goat

The Valais Blackneck goat is a milk-meat breed, which originated in the south of Switzerland, in the canton of Valais and neighbouring region – northern Italy. These goats are native to the mountains. Not surprisingly, they tend to be called the “glacier goats”. Adult bucks reach a height up to 85 cm at the withers and weighing up to 90 kg, while does are 75 cm high and weighing about 75 kg.
The colour of the Valais Blackneck goats differs from the rest of their sisters’ – they are black from the nose to the middle and white from there to the tail. The forelegs are black, the hind legs – white. The dividing line is straight and looks impressive. Wool of the goat is long and glossy. Both bucks and does have horns.
The Valais Blackneck goats have a very attractive appearance and character, they love to run and jump. Their lifespan is about 15 years. The Valais Blackneck goats were brought to the “Rakši” in 2017 from Germany.
